Two years ago, Liberty Care and Rehabilitation’s Chaplain Dominic Gordon had a big idea: a trellis garden wide enough for residents to walk through in their wheelchairs. Volunteers and 32 businesses donated time and $3,000 in materials to build the garden.
Today, the garden is just the beginning of how the community, locally and virtually, is bonding with Liberty Care & Rehabilitation elders through gardening. By joining a Facebook group of gardeners, elders at are now receiving seeds from across the country. Over 40 varieties of tomatoes and a box from New Jersey, a gift from a fellow gardener in the Facebook group, have surprised the elders with more possibilities to bloom. Our elders are now connecting with elders from around the world.
